Vintage Swiss Leather Gaiters -- Ski Steampunk Style!
December 13, 2010

$0 (inc. S/H)

[$30 a pair, postpaid. OUT OF STOCK as of 10/14.]

Supercool or Steampunk -- take your pick for this winter's hot new skiwear accessory!

Sure, they're classy in warm weather and for biking (especially mt-biking) or anywhere you might need ankle protection (or beautification), but I'm thinking that these would also work great to keep the snow off your knicker socks or out of any classy low-top boots.

I'll test this out soon and report back. I can't see them going wrong. (--Except maybe for 3-hr plus outings when maybe they'd get damp, freeze up and turn into leather bells -- which probably wouldn't be so bad. Maybe a bit tough to unbuckle. We'll see!)

These thick military surplus leather gaiters are in great condition. They are used, technically, to give shoes the leg-protection of boots.

I don't know exactly what they're really good for nowadays, other than leg protection, looking good, or using for costumes and re-enacting.

The looking-good part is what sold me on them. I confess that I use them mostly in various costumes. They're great for an outlaw or pirate outfit. Google "steampunk" for the look I'm talking about -- it's a style-trend that's a combo of retro-Victorian and steam-age nouveau tech plus a little Flash Gordon. (Movies of the type include: Steamboy, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Van Helsing, Sky Captain, Miyazaki flicks.)

One pic shows them with hobnail German soldier boots -- obviously, the boots aren't part of this sale.

Another pic shows me wearing them on a costume bike ride. They were a big hit. "Tweed rides" where people ride vintage bikes and wear vintage outfits are becoming popular worldwide -- these gaiters fit right in.

I do what I can to find and make available nifty, stylish, affordable vintage leather stuff. ...You're welcome! : )

Your support is much appreciated in return. All proceeds go to promote indie active culture & outdoor lore heritage via my website, OutYourBackdoor.com -- 1500+ articles, plus a catalog of nifty items. Your support is our only support! Thank you!
