Adventure Motorcycle / DualSport News ... Jun '07

[$6] OUT OF STOCK The newstands are full of motorcycle magazines. Who needs another one, right?

Well...try to find a mag about VERSATILE motos.

There isn't one!

All the mags are about: choppers, roadracers, mxers or collectibles. What's missing? A mag about just plain old motos! ---Allrounders. COMMUTERS even!

I asked around the moto scene and found out that there IS such a mag. But it's not on newstands. Not yet anyway. It's been around a long time, though.

ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLE is a hardcore DIY moto mag. It is subtitled Dual Sport News because that was its main title for years. It's a mag with a cult following. I'd say it might be one of the only alternative moto mags.

This is a mag obstensibly about motos that can do it all. It's about allrounders. Adventure travel stories are prominently featured, done on all kinds and ages of bikes. The "dual sport" bike is, of course, the oldest type. In 3rd world countries there are classics in this vein which are still the standard moto, much like the black Dutch or Chinese citybike. But typically "dual sport" means a bike designed for both dirt and pavement which also can fit racks for carrying loads. A sub-topic throughout the magazine is the utility or commuting motorcycle. Vintage bikes are sometimes featured---but for USING, not for show.

AM/DSN does good service at offsetting the extremes image of moto culture. It's the only moto mag that does so! Check it out!

Thrift and mileage seem to be almost non-issues in mainstream moto-culture. But these subjects are part of the mix at AM/DSN! I do look forward to someday seeing articles in moto mags about bikes that get 80+mpg... (It's a joke---such bikes aren't made!)
